  19. HOTEL ON BEACH:
  20. None. There are nearby hotels along the highway (close to the beach) and in the small village of Deshaies, a few miles away.

  22. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:

Guadeloupe is actually two islands. The western half is called Basse-Terre which, in fact, is connected by bridge to its eastern counterpart Grand-Terre. In the mountainous interior of Basse-Terre there is a national park with marked paths cutting through tropical forests, waterfalls and dormant volcanoes.

  25. ACCESS TO BEACH:
  26. There are two access points to the very long beach, basically at  either end. They are well marked by signs along the main road and located a few miles north of the small village of Deshaies. Parking is available under a canopy of palms.

  28. QUALITY OF BEACH:
  29. Rich golden brown sand, a mile and a half long. The beach angles steeply down into the water and is fringed with palm and seagrape. Near the water the sand is so soft and spongy that your feet soon disappear into it's mushy texture. The southern end of the beach follows a rocky headland for a considerable distance.

  31. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
  32. Following the signs directing you off the highway, the parking area is set in a palm grove populated with numerous casual beach bars and restaurants. It is a short walk out of the  palm thicket down to the beach itself.
